HORSE OVERVIEW
$2 million Fasig-Tipton Select Six Bonus! A regally bred filly by top stallion Quality Road out of a Grade 2 winning mare.
MyRacehorse and Spendthrift Farm went to $600,000 to acquire this beautifully bred filly by leading stallion Quality Road out of the Grade 2 stakes winning mare Lucy N Ethel. The old industry adage of “breed the best to best and hope for best” is certainly in play here with this filly. She’s a perfect balance of stamina and speed on the pedigree page. Her sire Quality Road has proven to throw great distaffers including 2017 Kentucky Oaks winner Abel Tasman, Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Filly winner Caledonia Road, and Grade 1 winners Bellafina, Dunbar Road, and Salty. Mare Lucy N Ethel was a precocious and speedy type for trainer Brad Cox who captured the 2016 edition of the Grade 2 Prioress Stakes at Saratoga.
Accordingly, we’re projecting she’ll mature into a nice two-turn filly that we’re hoping can stretch tactical speed into the classic distaff distances (see bonus info below!).
We purchased the filly from Woodford Thoroughbreds who are some of the most well-respected horsemen and consignors in the business. MyRacehorse and Spendthrift Farm multiple graded stakes winner Tizamagician is a Woodford sales graduate, in addition to all time great Midnight Bisou.
Fasig-Tipton Select Six Bonus
This filly comes with a $2 million bonus designed specifically for horses purchased by MRH at the 2021 Fasig-Tipton Saratoga Sale of Selected Yearlings. If this filly were to win the Kentucky Oaks shareholders would be paid a $2 million bonus (approximately $392/share prior to fees). Unlike some of our past offerings where the bonus was split in partnership with co-owners, this bonus would be paid out only to MRH shareholders.
Breeding Insights
Quality Road is one of the most sought after and consistent stallions over the last few years. His list of champions includes Breeders’ Cup Mile winner City of Light, Kentucky Oaks winner Abel Tasman, Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies winner Caledonia Road, Santa Anita Derby winner Roadster, Santa Anita Oaks winner Bellafina, and Alabama Stakes winner Dunbar Road. He stood the 2021 season at Lane’s End Farm for a $150,000 stud fee.
As a racehorse, Quality Road was one of the leading three-year-old’s of 2009 ,winning the Fountain of Youth Stakes and Florida Derby at Gulfstream Park. Transferred to the barn of Todd Pletcher in the summer of 2009, Quality Road would go on to add victories in the prestigious Donn Handicap and Met Mile before retiring to stud at the end of 2010.
The filly’s dam Lucy N Ethel was a multiple graded stakes winner for trainer Brad Cox, including wins in the Grade 2 Prioress Stakes at Saratoga. This is her first foal. Lucy N Ethel is a full brother to stakes winner Jake N Elwood.
Morning with Who Runs the World
Who Runs the World is progressing very well at King’s Equine in Ocala, Fl. She is currently galloping a mile and one eighth daily. Farm trainer and owner, Raul Reyes, said, “She is training well and showing a lot of class. She is very easy to work with and an absolute sweetheart.”
Quality Road wins another BC!
Corniche, son of Quality Road, wins the G1 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile decisively! Both of our yearlings, Who Runs the World, and Cable Boss, are by Quality Road. Exciting things to come!
Who Runs The World
Who Runs the World is now up to galloping a half-mile daily. Our young Quality Road filly is still learning the ropes. Trainer Kevin Noltemeyer has been training her on the rail inside of another yearling, helping her to keep a straight path. As part of her training process, she will begin galloping on the […]
