HORSE OVERVIEW
Targeting a Keeneland October Meet debut. A filly with a pedigree rich in stamina and speed to boot, Vow, is a daughter of a Classic winner from a female line heavy on stakes winners. In training with Al Stall Jr. in Kentucky.
MyRacehorse acquired this daughter sired by 2012 Belmont Stakes winner Union Rags for $140,000 on Day 3 of the Ocala Breeders’ Sales Company’s Spring Sale of 2-year-olds in training. The filly is a bit leaner than the typical offspring of her stallion and looks the part of a precocious runner that should be involved very early in her races. Her quarter mile breeze of 21.3 seconds in the under-tack show was a deceivingly good as she worked into a stiff head wind down the stretch but once she got going near the wire, really lengthened out her stride and looked impressive the further she went.
The filly is trained by classy horseman Al Stall Jr. who counts among his best victories the 2010 Breeders Cup Classic where his Blame upset the legendary mare Zenyatta. Stall has also trained the likes of Tom’s d’Etat, Central Banker, Departing, and million dollar earner Star Guitar.
Vow has breen breezing steadily in Kentucky and recently completed her first official work for Al Stall on July 24 going a half mile in 48.4 seconds. With a great deal of foundation gained working on the farm, Vow is expected to be ready for her first race in early Fall.
Breeding Insights
Sire Union Rags, a son of Dixie Union, was a stellar racehorse who won five of eight starts before an injury sent him to the sidelines. A multiple stakes winner as a 2-year-old, Union Rags won three of four starts as a juvenile, including the Grade 1 Champagne Stakes and Grade 2 Saratoga Special, before finishing second in the Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile.
His 3-year-old campaign was highlighted by his victory in the Belmont Stakes, where he defeated 10 rivals. The Belmont Stakes turned out to his last race, but it certainly wasn’t the last time Union Rags would be heard from.
Standing at Lane’s End Farm in Kentucky, where his 2021 fee is $30,000, Union Rags is the sire of Grade 1 winners Paradise Woods, Free Drop Billy, Union Strike, and Dancing Rags. His 2021 graded stakes performers include Express Train, winner of the Grade 2 San Pasqual Stakes, Nova Rags, Dynamic One, Spielberg and Saguaro Row.
With his progeny selling as yearlings and 2-year-olds for up to $1 million, Union Rags is currently a leading sixth-crop sire in several categories, including number of graded stakes winners and overall winners. He counts among his progeny winner of the Curlin Stakes and entered to run in the Gr. 1 Traverse this weekend, Dynamic One.
Vow’s female line is bursting with talent. Dam Diamond Ring is a daughter of the exceptional sire Malibu Moon. A winner of two starts, Diamond Ring is a half-sister to four stakes winners and her dam, Proposal, is a full-sister to multiple graded stakes winner Multiple Choice. Deeper in the female family are Grade 1 winners Leofric and Well Chosen.
Vow Update
Vow is scheduled to ship from Fair Grounds to Silver Springs Farm in Lexington, Ky., later this evening. We will report back with an update once she has arrived and has had time to settle in.
Vow Update
We received the vet report for Vow from veterinarian Dr. Kevin Dunlavey and the ultrasound revealed inflammation in her left hind proximal suspensory. While there is inflammation, the good news is that we are fortunate that trainer Al Stall Jr.’s early observation helped diagnose her subtle lameness and we were able to catch this quickly […]
Finalized Financials
Here are the finalized financials from Vow’s debut at Churchill Downs in November. A final distribution of $0.44/share has been added to your MRH wallet, in addition to the previously paid out race day instant payout.
