HORSE OVERVIEW
Class through and through. This filly’s pedigree screams Classic distance. Trainer Steve Asmussen has had tremendous success with this family including two Breeders’ Cup winners.
BREEZE & PHYSICAL
This regally bred filly is not necessarily built for a 2-year-old sales breeze, but showed off her nice two-turn stride through a steady :10 2/5 seconds move before further showcasing her stamina with a :11 flat and :23 4/5 gallop out. She’s a beautiful, scopey filly with a strong shoulder and hip. This Apr. 27 foal has plenty of room to grow and further develop, an intelligent eye and a natural, flowy walk. She’s got everything you’d look for in an athlete one would expect to excel going a route of ground on the dirt.
PEDIGREE
Horse of the Year and near $16-million earner Gun Runner has solidified himself as one of the best sires in the country and his oldest runners are only four. He’s already the sire of an incredible six Grade I winners, seven millionaires and 10 graded winners. Among Gun Runner’s standouts are superstar Classic colts Taiba, Cyberknife and GI Preakness winner Early Voting, but he’s had plenty of success with fillies as well, most notably of course with the brilliant Echo Zulu, 2021’s unbeaten champion 2-year-old filly. That filly is also trained by Hall of Famer Steve Asmussen, as is GISW Society and the precocious MGSW Wicked Halo –both bred identically to this filly out of Tapit mares.
Tapit, among the most important sires in North America in recent history, is already the damsire of 41 graded/group winners, 11 of which have reached the highest level.
Dam Tamboz’s produce record barely fits on this filly’s catalog page. She’s responsible for six previous stakes performers–one of which is already the dam of a graded stakes placed filly over a route of ground. This filly’s siblings include Creative Minister, who was third in last year’s Preakness; Grade I-placed Dolder Grand, an $800,000 OBSAPR grad by Gun Runner’s sire Candy Ride (Arg); Battalion Runner, second in the 2017 GII Wood Memorial; and Oceanwave, who was multiple graded-placed on the GI Kentucky Oaks trail. On top of all that, Tamboz is a full-sister to Grade I Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile winner Tapizar, best known as the sire of Oaks winner, two-time champion and future Hall of Famer Monomoy Girl.
TRAINER: STEVE ASMUSSEN
Hall of Famer Steve Asmussen is the winningest trainer in North American history, having recently blown past the 10,000-win mark with career earnings approaching $411 million. In addition to the aforementioned Gun Runner, he conditioned Horses of the Year and Hall of Famers Curlin and Rachel Alexandra. Asmussen has two Eclipse Awards for outstanding trainer, two GI Preakness trophies, one GI Belmont S. win and two Kentucky Oaks titles. Asmussen was closely involved in the selection process of this filly–if anyone’s going to be right about a filly with this pedigree, it’s him.
Offering Update 9/27/2023: Tamboz 21
