HORSE OVERVIEW
By Maclean’s Music, sire of the brilliant multiple Grade 1 winner Jackie’s Warrior. This colt is a classy-looking individual with an equally impressive under tack show breeze. In training with Hall of Famer Bill Mott in New York.
MyRacehorse partnered with Saratoga Seven to purchase this colt for $400,000 on Day 2 of the Ocala Breeders’ Sales Company’s Spring Sale of 2-year-olds in training.
The colt had one of the fastest quarter-mile times (20 4/5) at the under-tack show and is one of the top physical selections from our acquisition team at the sale. At the barn he was calm, cool, and collected and exhibited lots of class upon inspection.
To learn more about why our team went to bat for this colt see our video above.
As with the majority of our two-year old purchases the colt was turned out for 30 days to decompress from the sales process and now has resumed training. The colt looks and is bred to be an early type, so if he takes to his training in the coming months, we would anticipate him making a start later in the Saratoga meet or during the start of the Belmont meet.
Breeding Insights
A $900,000 yearling purchase, Maclean’s Music was retired due to injury after winning his lone start (an eye popping 114 beyer speed figure), but as a sire his winners keep coming, year after year.
Maclean’s Music is no stranger to siring graded stakes winners. In his first crop, this son of top sire Distorted Humor counted among his progeny, Preakness winner Cloud Computing.
The sire’s progeny have a flair for being precocious. His son Complexity won the Grade 1 Champagne Stakes at Belmont Park in just his second career start and another son, Jackie’s Warrior, stamped himself as one of the top 2-year-olds of 2020, following his wins in the Grade 1 Hopeful Stakes at Saratoga Race Course and the Grade 1 Champagne Stakes.
Maclean’s Music current star is Drain the Clock, a 3-year-old multiple stakes winner with five wins from seven starts, including this year’s Grade 3 Swale Stakes and Grade 3 Bay Shore.
Maclean’s Music stands the 2021 breeding season for $25,000 at Hill ’n’ Dale Farms in Kentucky.
This colt’s female side is deep with stakes winners and notable bloodlines. His dam, You Make Luvin Fun, is a daughter of the legendary A.P. Indy, and his extended female family features Grade 1 Kentucky Oaks winner Believe You Can, as well as Classic Elegance, a multiple graded stakes winner as a 2-year-old.
Expected on track: Summer 2021
Magical Ways Update
X-rays were taken on Magical Ways this morning at Belmont Park and they were clean, showing no fractures. While this is a positive, lameness was still evident at a jog which caused Dr. James Hunt, Bill Mott’s veterinarian that he uses at Belmont, to do a block of Magical Ways’ left front condyle (the rounded […]

Leana Willaford, Bill Mott’s Belmont-based assistant, said she liked the way Magical Ways worked especially with the little time off he had from the curb that was bothering him. She added that he looked a bit off when jogging […]
