HORSE OVERVIEW
Striking filly by 2015 Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile winner, Liam’s Map. Headed to HOF trainer Todd Pletcher.
BREEZE AND PHYSICAL
This Mar. 7 foal put in a super solid :10 1/5 breeze while traveling well within herself, and she galloped out with great energy in :10 4/5 and :23 1/5. She gave the impression of one who will most likely find her home on the dirt. The grey has a beautiful natural stance with a strong shoulder and pretty walk. She’s one who looks likely to be pretty precocious and speedy but there’s still plenty of reason to believe she’ll carry that speed.
PEDIGREE
Todd Pletcher trained both brilliant GI Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile hero Liam’s Map himself as well as Liam’s Map’s highest earner to date, MGISW and $1.8-million earner Colonel Liam. Liam’s Map has three other highest-level winners in his still somewhat young stallion career, including a pair of Grade I-winning juvenile fillies.
This filly’s dam Lovesick (Adios Charlie) was a precious sort who took her juvenile unveiling in August before stakes scores next out and two starts later as a sophomore. This is the first foal for the full-sister to 2018 GI Cigar Mile H. hero Patternrecognition. Another half-sister was a five-length debut winner herself at two, and multiple stakes winner at three. Further down the deep pedigree page is Grade I winner Rigoletta and her son, another Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile winner in Battle of Midway.
TRAINER
Hall of Fame trainer Todd Pletcher took home his eighth Eclipse Award for outstanding trainer in 2022, thanks in large part to championship seasons by females Nest and Malathaat. The four-time GI Kentucky Oaks winner has taken Saratoga’s GI Spinaway S. for 2-year-old fillies a record-tying six times and the prestigious GI Frizette S. downstate four times including in 2022. This potentially precocious filly couldn’t be in better hands to get her career off to a quick and productive start while hopefully continuing to make a major impact into Oaks season.
Offering Update 9/27/2023: Lovesick 21
Lovesick 21 was acquired on 4/27/23 and has been owned by the Series since then. All training and care costs have been billed to the Series. Lovesick 21 spent the summer at Monmouth under the watchful eye of assistant trainer Stu Hampson. She has had a steady work tab and will be heading down to Palm Beach Downs to begin preparations for a debut in Florida. She could make a debut as early as October 2023.
Here’s the Kicker Beyer Figure
Here’s the Kicker earned a strong 86 Beyer Speed Figure–the fastest of her career–for yesterday’s win. We’ll be seeing trainer Saffie Joseph, Jr. at the OBS sale this week and plan to get his thoughts on next plans when we talk to him.
Here’s the Kicker Update
Here’s the Kicker did not spike another fever after Saturday morning, but her white blood cell count was found to be elevated, so she did have an infection that she appears to have fought off. She’s been given an easy week to return to full strength, but should get back to tack walking tomorrow then […]
Here’s the Kicker Workout Report
Here’s the Kicker was back on the work tab this morning at Palm Meadows and was credited with three furlongs in :38.75. Trainer Saffie Joesph Jr. reported, “she got away a bit quick the first 1/8, so her rider slowed it down towards the end.” Given your daughter of Liam’s Map missed her work last […]
