Cumberland Falls Race Recap

Cumberland Falls finished seventh beaten 7 3/4 lengths in Gulfstream’s 11th race on Sunday. Click here for the chart.

With the temporary rails set out at 56 feet, Cumberland Falls broke alertly and put herself in a great stalking position while pressing moderate early fractions of 24.11 and 49.16. As Trainer Kent Sweezey mentioned in his post race video update, we couldn’t have asked for much of a better trip especially the way the Gulfstream Park turf course has been playing. She had no excuses today and unfortunately was just unable to quicken in the stretch.

There were some quality fillies in this field, including the impressive winner Mrs. Astor who had two better than looked efforts leading up to this race but this is how the majority of maiden special weights will shape up throughout the Championship meet. We will regroup with Kent and our partner Starry Night Racing in the coming days but it is likely best to give her some class relief moving forward.

We will follow up with a post race update in the coming days.
