Cumberland Falls Race Recap

As trainer Kent Sweezey told Cumberland Falls’ partners earlier today, the outside post can be tough on a first-time starter, but your filly handled it well and broke sharply from the starting gate. To secure position, jockey Miguel Vasquez rode her aggressively in order to save ground and Cumberland Falls, who raced in the four path, obliged by running just off the pace in third position down the backstretch of the 5 1/2-furlong Tapeta race. She moved up to second heading into the turn and was a factor until mid-stretch when she tired from her early efforts and finished 5th in a field that was scratched down to 8 horses.

You can hear from both Vasquez and Kent in the above video with each expressing satisfaction with this first start.

As is the case with debut races, the experience should serve her well going forward. We had always believed she would be a filly who would prefer distance races and perhaps the turf, so we look forward to collaborating with Kent on future targets for Cumberland Falls.
