HORSE OVERVIEW
MyRacehorse partnered with industry icon Stonestreet Stable at the 2022 Goff’s Orby Sale to land a promising young colt who is a half-brother to a Group 1 winner.
The colt who is currently receiving his early training in Florida and will make his way to Kentucky in the spring. He looked to be an ideal fit for trainer Wesley Ward’s program. He looks to be quick, precocious, and has the pedigree to run both here stateside and hopefully one day overseas at the Royal Ascot meet.
Co-owner Stonestreet Stables have campaigned two of the most celebrated racehorses in modern times, Horses of the Year and Hall of Famers Curlin and Rachel Alexandra. Founded by the late Jess Jackson, Stonestreet is now managed by his widow Barbara Banke who has an unwavering commitment to carry on her late husband’s legacy in all facets of the racing and breeding business. In addition to a wildly successful racing operation, Stonestreet’s farm in Kentucky covers 1,800 acres and is home to more than 100 top-notch broodmares and their foals, including dams that have raced in the Stonestreet colors and those who have been purchased at auction. One of the mares currently part of the heavy-on-talent broodmare band, Lady Aurelia, was a two-time stakes winner at Royal Ascot and a European champion for Stonestreet and Ward. Since its inception in 2005, Stonestreet’s yearling program has produced athletes who’ve earned more than $104 million on the racetrack and won nearly 200 stakes. They have been the top North American breeder by gross yearling sales on 11 occasions since 2007.
Breeding Insights
When a new stallion’s first crop gets off to a fast start, naturally the interest in subsequent crops is heightened. Such is this case with this yearling colt’s sire, Cotai Glory, who was a very fine racehorse who carried that talent with him to the breeding shed.
On the track, Cotai Glory won the Group 3 Molecomb Stakes as a 2-year-old and the Group 3 World Trophy at 3 and was beaten by just a neck in the Group 1 King Stand Stakes at Royal Ascot. He was quite the traveler as he competed in multiple Group/Graded races worldwide, including the Group 1 Nunthorpe Stakes in England on two occasions; the Grade 2 Nearctic Stakes in Canada; and the Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint in the United States. During Cotai Glory’s decorated career he defeated 11 Group 1 winners including: Battaash, Mecca’s Angel, Profitable, and Sole Power.
A son of Australian champion sire Exceed and Excel, Cotai Glory was quick off the mark as a stallion and found himself ranked the No. 1 first-crop sire in Europe in 2021, by both winners and earnings. That year his top runners included Group 2 Prix Robert Papin winner Atomic Force, Group 2 Coventry Stakes runner-up Eldrickjones and Group 3-placed Pearl Glory.
In October of 2022, one of his notable achievements came from his daughter, The Platinum Queen, who accomplished a rare feat by becoming the first 2-year-old since 1978 to win France’s famed Group 1 Prix de l’Abbaye.
La Cuvee ’21 Update
La Cuvee ’21 continues to move forward during his R&R at Stonestreet Farm. Our son of Cotai Glory currently uses the Aquacizer six days a week and jogs for 10 minutes in it. As we previously mentioned, the Aquacizer offers a concussion-free, intense aerobic workout in cold water (50-55 degrees). Farm manager Ian Brennan reported […]
