HORSE OVERVIEW
A colt by a much-sought after sire, this son of Not This Time is quick and nimble and looked fabulous at the OBS under tack show. In training with Hall of Famer Steve Asmussen in Kentucky.
MyRacehorse acquired this stellar-looking son of the young and sensational sire Not This Time for $250,000 on Day 1 of the Ocala Breeders’ Sales Company’s Spring Sale of 2-year-olds in training.
Our acquisition team was wowed by this colt’s total package and athleticism. He breezed an eighth-of-a-mile breeze in 10 1/5 at the under-tack show, and expect for him to be an early type, like many of the progeny we’ve seen from his second-crop sire Not This Time.
Physically the colt is extremely well balanced and a picture of perfection what you’re looking for conformationally in a good horse. We were ecstatic when the hammer fell at $250,000 for the colt, thinking we’d have to go much higher to land him.
Breeding Insights
Sire Not This Time currently shares the No. 1 ranking as a second-year sire in number of winners and is currently ranked No. 2 in the second-year sire list for progeny earnings. His 2021 stud fee at Taylor Made Stallions soared to 40,000 this year from last year’s $12,500, due to enormous success of his first crop of runners.
Not This Time has impeccable bloodlines as the son of European Horse of the Year Giant’s Causeway and a grandson of the legendary sire Storm Cat. The star in his first crop was Princess Noor, the runaway winner of the Grade 1 Del Mar Debutante and Chandelier Stakes at Santa Anita.
Even before Princess Noor reached the races, Not This Time was making headlines when this filly was bought for $1.35 million as the sales-topper at the 2020 OBS Sale of 2-year-olds in training in June, after she turned in the fastest quarter-mile time of :20 1/5 at the under-tack show.
Not This Time didn’t race beyond his 2-year-old season, but he made the most of his time on the track as a very precocious and fast colt who won his second start by 10 lengths and followed it up with a 8 3/4-length blow-out in the Grade 3 Iroquois Stakes. He nearly pulled off a victory in the Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile when finishing second, narrowly defeated by the eventual 2-year-old champion, Classic Empire.
This colt’s dam, Race Hunter, is a daughter of multiple Grade 1 winner Dixie Union and was a winner in Europe and North America. Her one foal to race, Lady Anna (daughter of Into Mischief), was a winner at 2, and has a win to credit this year as a 4-year-old.
The extended female family is rich with stakes winners. Second dam Shriek is a prolific producer, with each of her five runners reaching the winner’s circle, including multiple graded stakes winner Paid Up Subscriber, who was also a multiple grade 1-placed performer. Third dam Tricky Bird, a half-sister to multiple stakes winner, Tricky Six, produced graded stakes winner Stanley Park and stakes winner Turf Melody.
Chasing Time Workout Report
Chasing Time had his first work back at Belmont Park since the Woody Stephens. He breezed a half-mile in 52.20 seconds, which the slower time was expected for his first work back. Due to the heat in Kentucky, Chasing Time will remain at Belmont Park for now before shipping to Kentucky ahead of a race.
Chasing Time Update
Our racing team and trainer Steve Asmussen have begun discussing next race options for Chasing Time. After weighing what’s available in the current condition books, we identified a potential soft target for Chasing Time, an allowance race for 3-year-olds, non-winners of three races at Ellis Park on July 17th, going seven furlongs. If we run […]
