Chasing Time Race Recap

A very encouraging career debut from Chasing Time today as the colt finished fourth, beaten just three lengths, at Churchill Downs.

Our 2-year-old showed some first-race jitters as soon as the gates opened and he veered out from his outside post under jockey Brian Hernandez Jr.

He quickly was straightened and found himself up fairly close to the pace after several strides out of the gate. Hernandez then let the colt settled off the early leaders in fifth position down the backstretch, but as the field entered the turn, Chasing Time was on the inside and had a wall of horses in front of him. Hernandez had to swing the colt to the outside for a five-wide run in the stretch.

“He ran a good race,” Hernandez said. “He broke from the outside for the first time and took the dirt well and everything else. He turned for home and wheeled out, and I thought he was going ahead to win it from there, but he had tough trip the first part and he got a little tired late. But I think he will improve a lot off of this race.”

As Hernandez said, this is the type of effort that will greatly benefit Chasing Time for his next start.

We will follow up tomorrow with a report on how Chasing Time exited the race.
