Chasing Time grabs second place
Chasing Time ran a strong race Sunday, finishing second to upset winner Spartan Army in a six-furlong maiden special weight at Churchill Downs.
The 2-year-old son of Not This Time broke on top in the field of nine, but was passed by Mean Jakey and settled into second on the backstretch. In the turn, Royal Consort came to Chasing Time’s outside, but Chasing Time wouldn’t let him pass.
Once in the stretch, Chasing Time was three-wide and eventually moved to the rail in his stretch duel with Spartan Army. Our 6-5 favorite battled, but couldn’t catch the winner and lost by three-quarters of a length. The winning time was 1:10.94 over a fast main track.
Jockey Julien Leparoux said it was a good race for Chasing Time, making his second race appearance.
“He broke pretty sharp today, put us in a good spot,” Leparoux said. “The outside horse came on us, but he kept fighting on. He ran a decent race. I think (Spartan Army) is good.”
We will check with the Steve Asmussen barn to see how Chasing Time came out of the race
