Congratulations – Sweet as Sin got the job done today at Oaklawn Park. He WAS claimed for the $20K by trainer Kim Puhl (pending veterinary inspection). Click here for the chart.

Away on top, Sweet as Sin dueled from in between horses early and out-gamed his fellow pacesetters late to win by daylight.

While we certainly had much higher hopes for Sweet as Sin early on, a win and claim today was a solid result given where things stand. There’s clearly a ceiling on his talent, and the purse earnings plus claim price seems like a very fair trade for a horse who just lost another condition.

As always, we will keep close tabs on him moving forward.

Sweet as Sin breezed his second half this morning at Turfway Park, covering a solo half in :51 flat. As we’ve said previously, the Asmussen barn is not known for speedy works, but this was certainly not the most head-turning of drills regardless. It’s still early in Sweet as Sin’s return from injury, so hopefully he starts to wake back up in the coming weeks—he’s definitely shown more in the mornings previously so we know he’s capable of it.
