Mrs Whistler breezed a bullet half-mile this morning at Palm Meadows training center in 49.35 (1/13). As you will see in the video above, your filly did it all on her own and traveled nicely over the Palm Meadows main track. The plan remains to target a maiden special weight going five furlongs over the turf on May 26th at Gulfstream Park. Entries will be taken on May 20th.
Mrs Whistler celebrated her third birthday yesterday by recording her first half-mile work in 48.30 seconds. Trainer Saffie Joseph Jr. said he is continuously impressed at how well Mrs Whistler improves each week. Saffie added we’re about 6-8 weeks away from her debut, depending upon available races in the Gulfstream Park condition book.
Additionally, Mrs Whistler’s half-sister, by City Zip, Elle Z, went wire to wire in winning the Nelson J. Menard Memorial Stakes at the Fair Grounds yesterday by five lengths. This was the 4-year-old filly’s third career stakes win. We hope to see Mrs Whistler follow in her older sister’s footsteps when she begins her career in the next couple of months.
Mrs Whistler worked three furlongs on the inside of Kanthartana on Christmas Eve at Palm Meadows. The Saffie Joseph Jr.-trained pair covered the ground in a bullet 35.65 seconds. Nearing the wire, Mrs Whistler pulled away from her workmate and appeared to do so rather easily. With a quartet of three-furlong breezes under her since joining Saffie’s barn, Mrs Whistler will likely begin working half miles in the next week or two and is probably about six weeks away from making her career debut.
Mrs Whistler is scheduled to breeze at Palm Meadows tomorrow morning and we will issue a report following the work.
