Our Aftercare team caught up with Miss Sakamoto this morning at Stoneriggs Farm in Kentucky and are happy to report she is in foal 30 days to Maclean’s Music! As you can see from the videos above, she is enjoying retirement and thriving in the Bluegrass.
Miss Sakamoto has finally been entered in next Wednesday’s 6th race at Gulfstream Park. The claiming $25,000 for fillies and mares three years old and upward which have never won two races has drawn a field of eight and will be contested over five furlongs on the Tapeta. Miss Sakamoto drew post 7 and Paco Lopez will be back in the irons. While it’s been a frustrating stretch, we are pleased to see your daughter of More Than Ready back in the entry box and expect this to be a spot she should be very competitive in. Post time is 3:37 p.m. ET.
Miss Sakamoto breezed a solid half-mile over the Monmouth main track this morning covering the four furlongs in 49.80 (72/106). Trainer Kent Sweezey was pleased with this first piece of work over at Monmouth reporting she stayed strong the whole way and got something out of this work from a fitness point of view.
Pending all continues well, Miss Sakamoto will target the first-level allowance option going five and one-half furlongs on May 20th. Entries will be taken on Wednesday, May 17th.
Miss Sakamoto worked a half mile from the gate this morning at Payson Park in company with Voleuse. The Christophe Clement trained duo completed the work in 50.60 seconds. Christophe was happy to see the consistent time and said she broke much more forwardly this time compared to last. She is still being pointed to Gulfstream Park on January 27th to make her debut going five furlongs on the turf.
With a career debut potentially on the horizon for Miss Sakamoto later this month in a five-furlong turf race at Gulfstream Park on Jan. 27, she will join a lengthy list of her sire More Than Ready’s progeny to reach the races.
To date, the 25-year-old stallion has sired more than 3,500 foals of racing age with over 2,000 winners around the world. Among them are 13 champions, 97 graded stakes winners, and 212 black-type winners (non-graded races), which ranks him the all-time No. 1 North American sire of BTWs. More Than Ready also leads the way in the number of Breeders’ Cup winners he has sired, with seven reaching the winner’s circle at the World Championships.
He’s had an amazing career while standing at stud, first at Vinery Stud, and now at WinStar Farm in Kentucky, where his breeding fee this year is $50,000. He also was a remarkable racehorse, winning graded races from 5 1/2 to 7 furlongs on the dirt and collecting more than $1 million in purse earnings. Even when presented with the tall task of racing 1 1/4 miles, which was probably beyond his scope in distance ability, More Than Ready rose to the occasion and finished fourth in the 2000 Kentucky Derby.
Although he surely made a mark on the racetrack, it’s been in the breeding shed where he has really flourished, particularly because of his notoriety to produce all sorts of horses — sprinters and routers, on both turf and dirt. While he is generally regarded as a terrific sire of turf runners, it’s worth noting that his all-time leading earner in North America is Roy H, a dirt performer who won the 2018 Breeders’ Cup Sprint as part of a campaign that earned him $3.1 million on the racetrack.
A 2021 sampling illustrating the diversity — particularly in various distance capabilities — of his progeny, reveals graded stakes victories by Say the Word, who won the Grade 2 Hollywood Turf Cup at 1 1/2 miles; Hit the Road, winner of the Grade 1 Frank E. Kilroe Mile on the turf; Slipstream — trained by Miss Sakamoto’s conditioner, Christophe Clement — the winner of the Grade 3 Futurity Stakes at six furlongs on the turf; and Title Ready, victorious in the Grade 3 Louisiana Stakes at 1 1/16 miles on the dirt.
In the Thoroughbred Daily News, which features a section called “Rising Stars” and is a nod to impressive maiden winners, More Than Ready has been represengted by 16 of his offspring earning that status. Read about the sire’s latest “Rising Star”, Emmanuel, here.
Later in December, his son, Holiday House, scored a maiden victory over 11 rivals going 5 1/2 furlongs on the turf at Fair Grounds on Dec. 27.
With the countdown on for Miss Sakamoto’s career debut, we’re excited to see what’s in store for the filly and are hopeful she will add further distinction to her sire’s already impressive resume.
Miss Sakamoto is getting closer to her debut and has been doing extremely well at Payson Park. Christophe Clement said that she will have a couple more gate works and a five-furlong breeze before — pending all continues to go well — making her debut on January 27th at Gulfstream Park in a Maiden Special Weight going five furlongs on the turf.
Miss Sakamoto breezed three furlongs outside of company this morning at Silver Springs Farm in 38.00 seconds. She moved well throughout the work and galloped out nicely. She is about ready to head to Christophe Clement, and will go straight from Silver Springs to the trainers winter headquarters, Payson Park in Florida, later this month.

Miss Sakamoto is continuing to get closer to shipping to trainer Christophe Clement. On Saturday, she breezed again at Silver Springs, putting her on a weekly work schedule now. Miss Sakamoto worked a half mile for the past two weeks and is scheduled to work again next weekend.

Miss Sakamoto continues to make nice strides in her training while at Silver Springs. This past Saturday, she galloped in company with Sunshine Fever, and they executed a one-furlong blowout at the end of the gallop.
With Miss Sakamoto on the outside, the duo completed the breeze in 12.60 seconds and galloped out a quarter-mile in 27.80 seconds. This is just the beginning of breezes for Miss Sakamoto and we will have more updates as she progresses in her training.
