Magical Ways had a solid half-mile maintenance breeze this morning at Belmont Park, covering the four furlongs over the training track in 49.84 seconds (42/87). In addition, your 4-year-old colt was entered in an extra for Friday, April 21st at Aqueduct. Magical Ways was entered in the fourth race, a $40,000 maiden claiming which will be contested at the one-mile distance. He drew post 4 (of 7) with Junior Alvarado aboard. Post time is 2:56 p.m. ET. We will follow up with our paddock lottery in the coming days.

Magical Ways is currently en route to trainer Bill Mott’s barn at Churchill Downs in Louisville, KY. He is scheduled to arrive early tomorrow morning.

We will report back once he has had time to settle in.

We are pleased to share that Magical Ways will be shipping to trainer Bill Mott’s barn at Churchill Downs next week. Once shipping plans are arranged, we will report back with an update.

January 1st is the official birthday for all Thoroughbreds and we didn’t want this special day to go by without wishing Magical Ways the happiest of birthdays!

We are happy to report that Magical Ways has returned to light training and is jogging once around the Silver Springs track. He is moving forward nicely since healing from his bone bruising.

We hope to have video of Magical Ways on the track before the farm takes time off to observe the holiday season.

Please enjoy these photos of Magical Ways in the round pen at Silver Springs. The farm staff wanted to give him a few additional days before he returned to training, but we’re happy to report he is on track to resume light jogging this coming week.

We will follow up with an update when he returns to training.

X-rays were taken on Magical Ways this morning at Belmont Park and they were clean, showing no fractures. While this is a positive, lameness was still evident at a jog which caused Dr. James Hunt, Bill Mott’s veterinarian that he uses at Belmont, to do a block of Magical Ways’ left front condyle (the rounded end of the bone that sits in the joint and takes much of the impact when force is exerted). Once the block was done Magical Ways was jogged again and he was sound, leading to Dr. Hunt’s diagnosis of bone bruising. Magical Ways will be sent to Silver Springs in Kentucky where he will be reevaluated by Dr. Jeffrey Berk. As of now, Magical Ways will have a break for 60-90 days to ensure proper healing.

Magical Ways worked three furlongs yesterday morning on the Belmont Park training track in 38.22 seconds. Leana Willaford, Bill Mott’s Belmont-based assistant, said she liked the way Magical Ways worked especially with the little time off he had from the curb that was bothering him. She added that he looked a bit off when jogging him up first thing this morning and would reevaluate him later in the morning. During the reevaluation she noticed that he was off on his left front leg and called Dr. James Hunt for an examination. Dr. Hunt did a lameness examination and determined the left front ankle was the area of trouble. He administered a local anesthetic called a “four point” which blocks the nerves below the fetlock joint. Jogging after the block, Magical Ways jogged sound confirming that something in that area is bothering him. X-rays will be taken tomorrow morning and we will have another update once we get those results.

Magical Ways is back galloping after a week of jogging. This morning he galloped 1 ¼ miles around the training track at Belmont Park, and do so very nicely. Bill Mott’s Belmont-based assistant said the curb has not been inflamed since he has been galloping, and added that a decision to continue on with more serious training when Bill comes to Belmont this weekend.

Please enjoy this video of Magical Ways from this morning.
