We are happy to report that Kanthari started back under tack this morning. He will slowly ramp up his training while at WinStar Farm as we work on rebuilding his condition and airway.

Kanthari was re-examined by veterinarian Dr. Wes Sutter yesterday at Margaux Farm. Dr. Sutter reported that Kanthari jogged decidedly better than on his previous exam, but was still mildly diagonal in his gait behind. Dr. Sutter, however, said Kanthari was moving the best he has seen him do so in awhile. Kanthari will have two weeks of lunging, plus riding in the round pen, and then will be re-examined.

Kanthari was examined yesterday by Dr. Wes Sutter, who wishes for the 2-year-old to be lunged for another week in side reins. Kanthari will be checked again next week to determine if he is ready to have a rider on his back. We will follow up with an update after his next check-up.

Kanthari arrived back at Margaux farm last Thursday from Kentucky Equine Hospital and has settled in well. Dr. Wes Sutter from Kentucky Equine Hospital suspects that the cause of Kanthari’s lameness is a result of “Kissing Spine” disorder. Kissing Spine is caused when vertebrae are too close to one another and is most often found in Thoroughbreds and performance horses. The diagnosis, however, of Kissing Spine doesn’t always mean there is a cause to be overly concerned. The severity of each individual case varies greatly and in milder cases, a horse will show no sign of discomfort. Dr Sutter injected and blocked Kanthari’s dorsal spinal region. The lameness has improved and Kanthari moved much better following the treatment.

As a result of this diagnosis, Kanthari will go on a walker for two weeks with side reins to encourage him to use his back and engage the muscles in his hind end without bearing any weight from a rider on his back. Once the two weeks of walking is complete, he will return to jogging under tack with a rider aboard. During this time, Margaux farm, the MyRacehorse Racing team and Dr. Sutter will work together to develop the best plan forward for Kanthari.

We will report back with updates throughout the process.

Kanthari continues to progress nicely at Marguax Farm. He is currently galloping and is moving closer to a breeze. We will continue to update you on his progress as he gets closer to breezing.

Following Kanthari’s recheck today by Dr. Wes Sutter of Kentucky Equine Hospital, the 2-year-old son of Kantharos has been cleared to resume jogging at Margaux Farm.

Following two weeks of jogging, Kanthari will be rechecked to see how he is doing with his return to training.
