We have some news we wish to share with you from trainer Tom Morley who wanted to address his upcoming 10-day suspension for a post-race overage of a permissible medication. This does not involve any of the MyRacehorse runners in Tom’s barn. The overage is for Phenylbutazone (bute), a common medication that is akin to aspirin for humans that is not a performance enhancer and is allowed in a horse’s system on race day, but only at a certain threshold under the rules of racing in New York. This particular horse’s level was above the permissible level and Tom fully accepts responsibility for the error. This is the first medication violation for Tom in his 10-year training career. The suspension runs from Oct. 13 through Oct. 22. During that time horses in the barn who are entered to run will do so with Tom’s long-time assistant, Axelle Solares, named as the trainer.

STATEMENT FROM TOM:

“Regrettably during the Saratoga meet 2022 one of my horses, Built to Last, returned an overage for the permissible medication Phenylbutazone. In what was quite clearly human error this remains a deeply upsetting occurrence. As such I will be serving a 10 day suspension from the 13-22 October 2022 and complying entirely with the NYSGC ruling as well as reviewing our operating systems to ensure this never happens again.”
