Enjoy the photo of Fancy Quality while on turnout at Magdalena Farm in Lexington. The daughter of Wootton Bassett transitioned to a small paddock and is doing well according to the team at the farm. Pending everything continues in good order, your 3-year-old remains on schedule to be re-evaluated on July 1st. We will follow up with any news then.
Fancy Quality has remained in good order while on turnout at Kenny McPeek’s Silverleaf Farm in Ocala. Farm trainer Shaun Charlton reported your daughter of Wootton Bassett is enjoying her time off in her paddock. Shaun knows her extremely well, as he also prepped her as a 2-year-old at Silverleaf.
Pending an additional 4 to 6 weeks off training, Fancy Quality will be re-evaluated by the veterinarian before hopefully receiving the green light to return under tack.
Fancy Quality breezed five furlongs from the gate in 1:03.20 this morning at Fair Grounds, working on the inside of Bad Betty and Silverhills. Breaking the best of the trio, our daughter of Wootton Bassett never looked back and traveled comfortably throughout the drill. She always had the upper hand and finished the work with a 5+ length lead. While the final time was not overly quick, the visual was impressive and given her pedigree we would only expect to her to be better when she gets on the lawn.
This was a big milestone for your filly, accomplishing her first gate and five-furlong work which puts us that much closer to a debut. We will have further discussions with trainer Kenny McPeek regarding a potential timeline or a specific target for your 2-year-old filly.
Fancy Quality breezed a half-mile in :51.80 on Saturday morning at Fair Grounds while working in company with her usual stablemate Bad Betty. Similarly to last week, our daughter of Wootton Bassett took the upper hand in the final stage of the drill, her workmate was clocked in :52 flat for the four furlongs. Our filly’s exercise rider did not ask for much and the McPeek barn reported she is handling things well. Fancy Quality could have her first five furlong drill next week and pending a few additional breezes including a gate-work, we are not too far from a potential debut at Fair Grounds.
Fancy Quality breezed a half-mile in :50.20 this morning at Fair Grounds. Working on the inside of Bad Betty, her workmate took a two lengths lead down the backstretch. Our daughter of Wootton Bassett traveled easily and cruised entering the final stretch. Under no urging, Fancy Quality showcased a nice stride and crossed the wire with a 5+ lengths advantage. The McPeek barn was pleased with today’s drill as she continues to respond well to training every week. Click here to see the work.
Following her first breeze at Saratoga on August 6th, trainer Kenny McPeek reported that Fancy Quality exited the work shin sore. He therefore decided to give her a few days off to see if it would cool down but she unfortunately was still palpating on it last week. Given this was only her first true breeze, Kenny does not believe it’s worth pursuing on with this and prefers to give her additional time off and be patient with her. Since this is a common setback, especially with 2-year-olds, we remain confident that the time out of training will do her a lot of good so that she can come back stronger. Kenny will ship her back to his farm in Ocala where she will receive 45 to 60 days off before being reevaluated. We will report back with news from the farm in the coming weeks.
Fancy Quality transitioned to Saratoga last week and had her first official breeze over the Saratoga main track. She was credited with a three furlong work in :37.55. With trainer Kenny Mcpeek based at Saratoga daily, he wanted to be able to see your filly firsthand in the early stages of her progression. We will follow up with some video content in the coming week.
Wootton Bassett continues to impress as a stallion as his son Bucanero Fuerte won the Grade 1 Keeneland Phoenix S. impressively this morning at the Curragh.
Your newly-named Wootton Bassett filly has settled right in at Keeneland and had her second day on the training track this morning. She galloped with enthusiasm and was very professional throughout. Long-time jockey and now McPeek exercise rider Robby Albarado was aboard and provided some feedback which can be heard above. While we love the optimism, this filly still has some ways to go before truly finalizing actual race plans but the hope she can be ready towards the end of Summer or early Fall.
