Elite Heat’s target race at Gulfstream attracted sufficient entries (14 in fact), but was not used for Saturday the 29th because it was a substitute race and all other “book” races, which carry a higher priority, also had enough entries to be used. The race is back as an extra and will be offered again tomorrow for next Sunday. In a case like this, it’s just a question of when, not if, the race will go.
Elite Heat breezed four furlongs in :49.80 on Sunday morning at Fair Grounds. She worked in company with stablemate Fionn, a maiden special weight winner on Dec. 16th. Fionn was her workmate last week as well, and that breeze video can be seen in the video above. As you will see in that video, she does look like a turf horse breezing on the dirt with her knee action, but that drill was a positive one for our filly. The barn was pleased again with today’s breeze but no video has been posted.
We remain on target for a race in two weeks, giving her time for one more breeze in preparation for career start number two.
