Cumberland Falls ran too good to lose in tonight‘s finale at Churchill Downs. Breaking from the far outside, jockey Luan Machado was able to get over and save as much ground as possible, while settling in fourth down the backside. She always appeared to be traveling well and loomed up with a big run heading into the turn. Cumberland Falls took command of the lead at the top of the stretch and kicked on willingly. With a sixteenth of a mile to go there was one danger to hold off in #4 Lil Town Sis. The duo battled it out in the final stages with Cumberland Falls losing a heartbreaking photo.

Cumberland Falls was claimed for $20,000 out of today’s race (pending the post-race vet exam, etc.).

Cumberland Falls was officially entered in a $16,000 claiming race for fillies and mares who have never won two races going one mile and one-sixteenth on the Tapeta on March 15th at Gulfstream Park. Jockey Jorge Ruiz will be in the irons, and your daughter of Tapwrit will break from post 5 (of 7). The 7th race will have a post time of 4:08 p.m. ET. As previously stated, given her last race was for $16,000 and the waiver claiming rule coming off of a 120-day+ layoff, Cumberland Falls will be able to run protected meaning she is not eligible to be claimed.

We will report back with our race-day lottery and any news to share in the coming days.

Kent Sweezey provided an update on Cumberland Falls who shipped to Palm Meadows earlier this week. Your daughter of Tapwrit looks well and will return on the track in the coming days. She will be able to start back where she left off at Nelson Jones Training Center and we will report back with on-track footage next week.

Cumberland Falls was spotted jogging earlier this week at the Nelson Jones Training Center. Our filly started back under tack on Dec. 1st and is enjoying being back in training according to farm manager Jorge Villagomez. Our daughter of Tapwrit is scheduled to return to Palm Meadows with Julie Stormfelt and Kent Sweezey tomorrow and we’ll report back once she settles in in her news digs.

Cumberland Falls exited Sunday’s race in good order and earned a 68 Beyer Speed Figure which is only 4 points below her career-best 72. See updated lifetime performances above. Unfortunately, your filly did not get a smooth trip breaking from the rail, but both our team and trainer Kent Sweezey strongly believes she is competitive as this level. Cumberland Falls will return to the track tomorrow morning and pending she trains well, we will likely put her back in the same spot next time.

Cumberland Falls ran fourth and was not claimed in todays 5th race at Monmouth Park. As you’ll hear in the video above, both jockey Jairo Rendon and trainer Kent Sweezey were disappointed in the effort as he was looking for a win from her today. Breaking from the 1 post position never is a benefit but Kent feels we should put her in the same spot next time and hopefully will get a win then

Cumberland Falls shipped back to Monmouth Park and exited Sunday’s race in good order. She earned a career-best 72 Beyer Speed Figure which was expected given her effort. Listen to trainer Kent Sweezey as he discusses the filly and the plan moving forward.

Cumberland Falls finished a decent sixth in today’s 6th race at Belmont Park, beaten by only 2 3/4 lengths. Your filly broke well and placed mid-pack early on by jockey Flavien Prat. The pace was slow down the backstretch with fractions of :25.65 and :51.81. While very keen to go on, Cumberland Falls was in very good position. Due to the slow pace, Flavien was forced to make an early move and was contesting for the lead while three wide turning for home. Your daughter of Tapwrit finally flattened out in the final furlong but ran a respectable race.

Flavien Prat shared his thoughts following the race which can be heard above. He reported that your filly was keen in the backstretch and that the distance was a bit too long for her. This was a solid effort overall for Cumberland Falls and your filly is expected to ship back to Monmouth in the coming days. We’ll report back then with news on how your filly exited the race.

Cumberland Falls breezed a solo half-mile in 50.90 (19/23) this morning over the Palm Meadows turf course. Trainer Kent Sweezey reported your filly is doing very well at the moment but opted to bypass the $50,000 maiden claiming option on Apr. 15 at Gulfstream Park and give her additional time. We could consider any possible extras that appear later in the month, otherwise her next start will likely come at Monmouth Park. The Monmouth Park backside opens towards the end of the month and Cumberland Falls will remain at Palm Meadows until then.

Cumberland Falls breezed a solo half-mile in 48.90 (12/33) over the Palm Meadows main track this morning. Trainer Kent Sweezey considered this to be a maintenance work but felt she did it very well. Cumberland Falls continues to do great and the plan will be to likely target a maiden special weight at Monmouth Park on May 13th but we will keep our eyes open if anything pops up at Gulfstream throughout the remainder of the month.
