La Cuvee ’21 continues to move forward during his R&R at Stonestreet Farm. Our son of Cotai Glory currently uses the Aquacizer six days a week and jogs for 10 minutes in it. As we previously mentioned, the Aquacizer offers a concussion-free, intense aerobic workout in cold water (50-55 degrees). Farm manager Ian Brennan reported that his ankle is looking good. An updated X-ray will be taken next week and pending positive results, La Cuvee ’21 will start back in light training under tack. We will follow up with any news to share.
La Cuvee ’21 had his first official breeze July 22nd over the Saratoga turf course for trainer Wesley Ward. Breezing in company with two other stablemates, your son of Cotai Glory was outworked quite significantly. He was credited with a half mile in :52.85. Given this was his first work off of limited training it was not completely surprising he was behind from a fitness standpoint.
Unfortunately, out of the work this colt was diagnosed with a low dorsal cortical stress fracture in his front left limb. As revealed by a standard X-Ray, the rehabilitation for this injury does require surgery. The surgery involves a screw which will provide the best prognosis.
Following a successful surgery, La Cuvee ’21 has been shipped back to Stonestreet where he will complete his rehabilitation. He will be rechecked following 60 days off and based on the healing and progress of the fracture, future plans can be put together. This is of course not an ideal situation given the time and patience we have taken with him but this is something that will heal with time.
La Cuvee ’21 transitioned into his new surroundings at Saratoga in good order. The barn passed along this video of him prior to training and can be seen above. While we were hoping he would be a little further along in his training at this point, trainer Wesley Ward is still nursing him through his juvenile tendonitis. As a result, he is still currently jogging and should be able to pick it up in a few weeks time.
What a beautiful mover La Cuvee ‘21 is! In the video above, the 2-year-old colt (on the outside) is getting some speed work in at Stonestreet Farm. He continues to progress in his training and was cleared to ship to trainer Wesley Ward’s barn at Payson Park and arrived there on Feb. 13th.
