Two MyRacehorse stablemates (Chasing Time & Straight No Chaser) were nominated to The St. Matthews Overnight Stakes on Thursday, May 4th (Thurby) at Churchill Downs. Click here to view past performances for those nominated.
Chasing Time was sharp from the get-go on Saturday afternoon, breaking alertly and finding himself contesting the lead early on. Down the backstretch, your 4-year-old colt settled in second under jockey Joel Rosario as #1 Kneedeepinsnow came along the inside to take command setting fractions of 22.74 for the quarter and 45.87 for the half-mile. Chasing Time loomed with a nice bid in the turn and as they turned for home but unfortunately he could not change gears and remained steady in the stretch to finish third. The replay of the race can be found here. You will need to click the according date (Apr. 8) and race number (Race 4).
Chasing Time earned a co-career best Beyer Speed Figure, pairing an 89. Most importantly, he exited the race in good physical order according to the Asmussen barn. We will regroup with Steve and allow Chasing Time to get back into a routine training schedule following a few well-deserved days off. Looking ahead there is an allowance at Churchill Downs going seven furlongs on May 4th along with the Lake Hamilton Stakes going six furlongs on May 6th at Oaklawn.
Chasing Time earned a career-best 89 Beyer Speed Figure for yesterday’s victory at Oaklawn Park. A copy of his updated lifetime past performances can be seen above.
In celebration of the win, the Chasing Time collection will be on sale until 12:00 a.m. ET. The winners’ circle photo can also be purchased here.
Chasing Time did not disappoint this afternoon with a fairly easy win when all things were settled. He broke sharply under jockey Joel Rosario but let the early speed go and settled in the third pack on the outside of the post time favorite and runner up, Osbourne. The pace was quick, giving our colt plenty to run into as we expected. As they went into the far turn, Chasing Time was traveling nicely under his own power and Rosario appeared ultra confident he had the horse under him. It took some patience but Rosario worked his way through in the stretch and exploded when he received daylight. Chasing Time won by just short of two lengths in the end.
A win like this is exciting and sets him up with plenty of opportunities in the future. We will first see how he exits the race, along with assessing his figures to see what the short term future holds for him. Congratulations again to all owners.

Chasing Time decided all he wanted to focus on today was some fine Kentucky Bluegrass. With the track closed today the colt enjoyed his turnout time and seemed to care less that he had some visitors! He continues to progress onwards in his training and we’ll look to capture some on the track content here shortly.
We are thrilled to report, Chasing Time has been cleared to resume training this week and can be seen above back on track at Silver Springs. The 3-year-old son of Not This Time will gradually ease back into training by jogging for at least two weeks and then will turn around to begin galloping. We will continue to update you on his progress.
One factor of managing the cash reserve account of your horse series is the periodic assessment of mortality insurance premiums. When shares of your horse are originally offered on MyRacehorse the horse is insured at its auction or purchase price. As your horse progresses throughout its career our team makes changes to these amounts based on a number of factors, most importantly current race record and performance. Note that these values may be changed periodically depending upon new developments with your horse. For example, if your horse becomes a Graded Stakes winner, or a stakes-placing, particularly for a filly, the insurance value would be increased. Conversely, if your horse drops into claiming ranks, is gelded, or isn’t competing at the highest levels of racing, the insured value will likely decrease from the original value. Actively managing insured amounts allows us to optimize the remaining funds in the reserve account, which will be distributed back to you at time of account closure.
We’ve recently decreased Chasing Time’s policy from $500,000 down to $250,000.
Our handsome boy enjoying a nice brisk Kentucky morning!
His beauty is truly reflected in these photos.
Chasing Time was reexamined Tuesday by Dr. Wes Sutter of Kentucky Equine Hospital. The examination results were exactly what we had hoped for. The cortical fissure on Chasing Time’s right front fetlock is healing and the line is no longer visible. He can now move over to paddock turnout and start using the walker for the next 30-45 days. Before officially moving over to the paddock he will be turned out in a round pen to help his transition. Pending all goes well over the next several weeks, he could then begin to pick up a light jog in addition to his turnout time.
