Catalyst worked an easy half mile on Sunday at Sam Houston, covering the ground in :51.20 (35/50). She remains on target for the aforementioned race which is on Apr. 5 (not Apr. 6 as previously reported). We will pass along any updates as they come to us.

Catalyst was sixth today at Oaklawn Park. She sat towards the back early, and started to make a move down the backside. She continued to show interest from there while moving through the pack, but just had too much to do in the short stretch and never quickened as much as she needed to.

Jockey Ramon Vazquez said that he felt he had lots of horse down the backside, but said she just ran evenly in the stretch while at the same time not necessarily getting tired or backing up.

Considering her prior races, and the fact that she was coming off a lay-off here, we weren’t necessarily surprised by the finish, but would be hopeful she can step forward next out with a bit more conditioning.

We’ll let the Asmussen team evaluate her over the coming days and discuss options with Steve and our partners—something like a venue change might be worth thinking about, but there’s no need to make any decisions right now.

Our team was able to check in on Catalyst yesterday morning at De Meric Farm in Ocala, FL. Tristan De Meric reports she is improving while on turnout. As you will see in the photo and video above, she has put on beneficial weight but still has a little ways to go. The current plan will be to keep her on turnout for a few additional weeks before starting to swim to build up her back muscles. We’ll be back with more soon.

Happy race day and good luck, Catalyst owners! The 6th race has a post time of 3:18 PM CT and at this time there are no scratches. The track has been listed as ‘muddy’.

Our friends at 1/ST BET have picked out their ‘Best Bet’ for the race where they recommend playing a $2 trifecta using #4 Catalyst to win, #3 Flashy Dancer to place, and #1, #5, #6, & #8 to show.

Catalyst owners can get a 100% deposit match, up to $150, plus an extra $25 bonus if you make your first deposit within 30 Minutes of signing up by using the code ‘MRH150’. Click here to learn more.

Catalyst had her first work back this morning at Oaklawn Park, covering a half-mile in :50.40 while on the outside of Twirled (3x winner). Under jockey Erik Asmussen, our daughter of Gun Runner traveled easily throughout the drill under no urging, finishing head-to-head at the wire with her mate. This was a solid first breeze back for our soon to be 3-year-old who has handled everything out of her debut in good order. We will discuss a race plan with trainer Steve Asmussen in the coming week and follow up in our next update but our next possible options would come on Jan. 12 or Jan. 19.
