HORSE OVERVIEW
Half-brother to Grade 1 Travers winner Catholic Boy, this strapping son of leading sire Quality Road looks to possess the same attributes as his world class big brother.
MyRacehorse partnered with Bridlewood Farm on this scopey looking son of leading sire Quality Road at the 2021 Fasig-Tipton Saratoga Sale of Selected Yearlings. The colt is a half-brother to Grade 1 winner Catholic Boy who captured the rare feat of winning Grade 1’s on both turf (Belmont Derby) and dirt (Travers Stakes). While a late April foal, this colt has a lot of size and stretch to him and projects to be the type that should blossom with additional timing and maturity. His stature led our team to project him as a type that could take to either surface and excel around two-turns, much like Catholic Boy.
By Quality Road, sire of horses who have shown the ability to get the classic distance, and out of a Bernardini mare (from the stamina rich A.P. Indy line), we think this colt is a great fit for our Fasig-Tipton Select Six Bonus.
The colt will receive his initial training at Bridlewood Farm in Ocala, Florida this fall and into the spring before moving onto the race track towards the later part of next spring. We couldn’t be more excited to partner with Bridlewood Farm who have a long storied history in racing, including their 2017 Belmont Stakes winner Tapwrit.
Fasig-Tipton Select Six Bonus
This colt comes with a $2 million bonus designed specifically for horses purchased by MRH at the 2021 Fasig-Tipton Saratoga Sale of Selected Yearlings. If this colt were to win the Kentucky Derby shareholders would be paid a $2 million bonus (approximately $392/share prior to fees). Unlike some of our past offerings where the bonus was split in partnership with co-owners, this bonus would be paid out only to MRH shareholders.
Breeding Insights
Quality Road is one of the most-sought after and consistent stallions over the last few years. His list of champions includes Breeders’ Cup Mile winner City of Light, Kentucky Oaks winner Abel Tasman, Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies winner Caledonia Road, Santa Anita Derby winner Roadster, Santa Anita Oaks winner Bellafina, and Alabama Stakes winner Dunbar Road. He stood the 2021 season at Lane’s End Farm for a $150,000 stud fee.
As a racehorse, Quality Road was one of the leading three-year-old’s of 2009, winning the Fountain of Youth Stakes and Florida Derby at Gulfstream Park. Transferred to the barn of Todd Pletcher in the summer of 2009, Quality Road would go on to add victories in the prestigious Donn Handicap and Met Mile before retiring to stud at the end of 2010.
The colt’s dam Song of Bernadette is by 2006 Preakness winner Bernardini, a leading stallion in his own-time and son of the legendary stamina influence stallion A.P. Indy. Bernardini is now becoming a prolific broodmare sire with the likes of Kentucky Oaks winner Serengeti Empress and Grade 1 winners Catholic Boy, Maxfield, and Dunbar Road. Of course, Song of Bernadette produced this colt’s half brother Catholic Boy in 2015.
Cable Boss Scratched
The races at Horseshoe Indianapolis have been taken off the turf course today and as a result, Cable Boss has been scratched. If no extra is written before, the next available option at Horseshoe Indianapolis on the turf is on August 26th. We will discuss with trainer Brendan Walsh and report back with a final […]
Cable Boss Workout Report
Cable Boss breezed a half-mile in company in :48.40 on Friday morning at Churchill Downs. Working alongside stablemate Under Advisement (2nd and 6th in maiden special weights at Keeneland and Churchill Downs), Cable Boss handled everything fairly well. Trainer Brendan Walsh reported that his last couple of works have been better and is not far […]
Cable Boss Workout Report
Cable Boss breezed a half-mile in :49.20 (13/28) on Friday morning at Churchill Downs. Your 3-year-old colt worked on the inside of Wild Iris ($102,000 daughter of Violence), and can be seen above. This was his workmate’s first half-mile work so it’s important to consider Cable Boss is much further along from a fitness standpoint. […]
