Boppy Race Overview

Boppy shipped to Horseshoe Indianapolis and will make her fourth career start in Wednesday’s 5th race, a maiden special weight going one flat mile on the turf for fillies. While this race is open to 3-year-olds and upwards, the field consists of ten 3-year-olds. Following two solid runs at Turfway Park and Churchill Downs, Boppy was disappointing in her third start at Ellis Park and was never a factor in this race. Running at Horseshoe Indianapolis will allow the daughter of Blame to find some sort of class relief which will hopefully result in an improved performance. She has been slated as the third-favorite at 4-1.

Boppy has shown some early speed in her first two starts and would be expected to be contesting the pace on Wednesday. Fernando De la Cruz, who is third in the jockeys’ standings at Horseshoe Indianapolis and will take over riding duties. Good luck to everyone. Post time is 4:46 p.m. ET.

Please note, the Shelbyville area has taken some good rain today but looks to be tailing off later this afternoon. Tomorrow’s forecast looks clear but it will all come down to turf conditions on Wednesday whether or not this race will remain on the turf. If it does come off the turf, we will need to make a decision with trainer Brad Cox regarding if we will proceed running.

Threats:

On Thoro-Manager (see above), #2 Just Say So, #8 Boppy and #10 Tiger Tap are the standouts in the field.

#2 Just Say So (7-2): Knocking on the door at this level against tougher competition, will also look for a class relief shipping to Horseshoe Indianapolis. Fourth consecutive try at the mile distance on the turf, has run some interesting which makes her very competitive in this field.

#10 Tiger Tap (2-1): This Brendan Walsh trainee has been competitive at Gulfstream Park and Churchill Downs in the past. Trainer strikes at 21% at Horseshoe Indianapolis and jockey Declan Cannon at 30%. Difficult to know which of the three fillies has the best shot, but it sure seems one of them will have her first career win.
