BC Mile Recap
Got Stormy gave it her all today in the $2 million Breeders’ Cup Mile at Del Mar, but it wasn’t enough to secure a top placing in the stellar field of turf runners.
Got Stormy finished fifth, beaten 2 1/2 lengths, in the 13-horse field after a perfect trip under Tyler Gaffalione. The 6-year-old raced in fourth position until the stretch, where she briefly claimed the third spot, until being passed in deep stretch by a calvary charge of horses to the finish, which ended with Euroepan invader Space Blues capturing the race.
Following the race, trainer Mark Casse told the Breeders’ Cup Notes Team: “I was concerned because the turf has a little more give to it than she likes. I knew she’d struggle some, but I’m proud of her. She ran hard again. What can you say? She’s done things others never have.”
What a thrill and an honor it has been for MyRacehorse to be connected to Got Stormy for her 2021 racing campaign, which saw her courageously win the Grade 1 Fourstardave for a second time in Saratoga and the Grade 3 Honey Fox at Gulfstream Park. In all, Got Stormy is a winner of 12 races from 32 starts and has amassed more than $2.4 million in career earnings.
The Breeders’ Cup Mile marks the final career start for the brilliant daughter of Get Stormy, who will be bred next year.
