And they are off… Botero Family Racing is off to a great start in 2022…
A new year always brings with it many great expectations and hope for the future which lifts our spirits. Our horses are surely doing their part to help fill our days with excitement and great expectations. Carrothers ran his best race in America finishing third in an allowance race at Aqueduct. He is still getting used to his surroundings but starting to show his potential on the track. Tap the Gavel also ran well in his first start of the year, although he needs to mature.
And then this weekend, our Chasing Time won his allowance race at Oaklawn Park by seven lengths under a hand ride. A truly impressive performance. Now the team is pointing our three-year-old colt to the Rebel Stakes in late February, which is considered a Kentucky Derby prep race (Yes, I did say Kentucky Derby prep, let’s keep our fingers crossed).
Meanwhile our new two-year-olds are all starting their training at various farms and training centers. Hector and Roxanne spent this weekend visiting some of them, they stayed at the World Equestrian Center in Ocala Florida and had a great time.
Our next start is for Always Hopeful in New Orleans this coming Saturday 1/22. This will be his second start and he has been working well leading up to the race.
