HORSE OVERVIEW
A striking colt by exceptional sire and champion racehorse Speightstown. Quick-twitched athlete in training with the young and impressive Cherie DeVaux in Kentucky.
MyRacehorse and DeVaux partnered to land this impressive specimen for $160,000 at the Fasig-Tipton March sale of 2-year-olds at Gulfstream, where he flaunted his speed by covering an eighth of a mile in 10.1 at the under-tack show with very little ask from the rider. The exceptional and smooth work over the more demanding dirt surface versus the synthetic track at OBS demonstrated to our team that the colt looks like the part of a quick dirt horse who will likely excel around one turn. However, with the A.P. Indy influence on his bottom side and sire Speightstown’s ability to get many different types of runners, we’re extremely excited about the potential options that we could have with the colt.
DeVaux has hands-on experience and success with this colt’s family as she trains his half-brother, Tulane Tryst. Tulane Tryst, a son of Into Mischief, orchestrated a ‘wow’ performance in March at Fair Grounds when he won a maiden special weight race, stopping the clock in a swift 1:09.09 for six furlongs.
Breeding Insights
Talk about a sire that demands respect. Speightstown was an outstanding competitor on the racetrack and is now a remarkable stallion standing at WinStar Farm in Kentucky.
Perhaps the Thoroughbred Daily News said it best in a recentarticle: “The fact is that Speightstown is one of the most proven, gilt-edged influences available to breeders today.”
The freakishly fast Speightstown, a son of Gone West and a descendent of the breed-shaping sire Storm Cat, competed for four seasons on the track. At the ripe age of 6 years old, he enjoyed his best season by capturing the 2004 Breeders’ Cup Sprint, which earned him the recognition of being named the Eclipse Award winner in his division.
As a sire, offspring of Speightstown wear many hats. His progeny are extremely versatile and excel on both dirt and turf and in sprints and routes. Eight of his offspring are millionaires and he has sired more than 20 Grade 1 winners worldwide.
His top earner is 2020 Arkansas Derby winner Charlatan, a multiple Grade 1 winner with $4 million bankrolled in purse earnings. Sharing, a daughter of Speightstown, won the 2019 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf. His son, Haynesfield, proved himself as a distance runner with a Grade 1 victory at 1 1/4 miles.
On this colt’s female side, dam Desire Street (by Congrats) was a winner and her first foal, Tulane Tryst, is off to a terrific start on the track for DeVaux with a record of 1-2-0 in three starts.
Tabarin, the second dam, has produced six winners, including Abraham, a stakes winner and $700K earner, and Beat the Benchmark, a daughter of Speightstown, who is Grade 1-placed on the turf. Third dam La Cucina was a prolific producer of winners with 12 of her offspring reaching the winner’s circle, including a pair of graded stakes winners, Miss Isella and Sir Cherokee.

Always Hopeful’s half brother, Tulane Tryst, won an allowance race this afternoon at Churchill Downs. Tulane Tryst is a 3-year-old colt by Into Mischief and he won today’s race by 2 3/4 lengths. He is also trained by Cherie DeVaux and Always Hopeful’s jockey, Brian Hernandez Jr., rode Tulane Tryst to victory today.
